Because I’m Yours by Claire Contreras Review & Release Blitz!

Because I'm Yours by Claire Contreras is now live!

Lenora De Luca

I've always been a good girl.
The perfect daughter.
The perfect sister.
And, in two weeks, I'm supposed to become the perfect wife.
I don't know or like the man my father chose to marry me off to but I have no say in the matter.
That's why when I see Rocco Marchetti, the man I've had a crush on my entire life, I decide he'll be my first.
When he looks at me it's electric and I know he wants me.
We keep stealing glances and hiding smiles, but I want more.
I want one night with him.
So what if I'm the daughter of the most feared man in organized crime?
So what if he's my overprotective brother's best friend?
It's just one night.

Rocco Marchetti

Lenora De Luca is as forbidden as they get.
She's also kind, and thoughtful, and makes my d . . . makes it hard to think.
It starts off innocent enough, just flirting, but then she kisses me and tells me she wants to spend one night with me.
It's wrong on so many levels, but I don't even try to deny that I want her.
I tell myself that it'll be her wedding present (I know I'm sick, get over it).
I've had plenty one nightstands that end amicably.
Lenora can't possibly be any different.
As long as her brother doesn't find out, things will be fine.
I usually strategize and think through every decision, but something about her makes me walk right into the fire.

Review:

Oh my goodness, Claire Contreras did it again!! She has such an incredible way of writing books that stir so many different emotions in these fictional worlds! This book was par for the course in that regard. I felt happy, sad, mad, confused, excited, anxious, and so many other ways in reading this story!

Because I’m Yours is set in the fictional mafia world of the La Cosa Nostra. It is the 4th book in the series, but can be read as a standalone. I have read the entire series though and would highly recommend reading it all as you get to see bits and pieces of other couples you have fallen in love with in earlier books in this book and I can promise that will make your heart happy!

It was easy to fall in love both with Rocco and Lenora, the two main characters in this story. Lenora just made my heart hurt for the horrible situation she was put in, but I loved her fire, I loved her spirit, I loved her moxy. She was not going to go down without a fight or at least be able to make some of her own choices regardless of what others wanted her to do! Rocco is the type of man who takes care of business, no matter what the business is. He seems like he’s worked on himself and has such a good attitude, trying to keep the laughs happening often and choosing each day to find the happiness in life, despite having a job that doesn’t necessarily encourage either of those things! The passion between these two is next level and there was definitely a time or two where a little fanning of my red cheeks was needed! I love the family (well, most!) aspect of this book and the friends who are family. And the very end of this book?! So good in so many ways! The big gift at the end took the cake for me though, Rocco brought the tears with that one!! Overall, I really enjoyed this story and hope you’ll take the time to read it too!

Because I Want You by Claire Contreras Review and Release Blitz!

Because I Want You by Claire Contreras is now live!

From New York Times bestseller Claire Contreras comes a new, sexy standalone mafia romance novel…

Roselyn Vega -
When Gabriel De Luca waltzed into the nightclub where I was bartending, looking like he'd just stepped out of the pages of GQ Magazine: Wall Street Edition, it felt like fate.

I hadn't seen him in ten years, but it felt like no time had passed between us. He'd been my first boyfriend, and I trusted him, so when he asked me how I ended up bartending for one of the most feared crime bosses, I told him everything. After that night, he went MIA, and suddenly, I'm very concerned for both our safety.

When he finally shows up, a week later, he's acting different, walking different, and even looks a little different, but I'm so relieved that he's okay that I barely register those things.

A couple of nights later, when he breaks into my apartment in the middle of the night I realize that it wasn't Gabriel who'd walked into the club the other night, but his brother. His infuriating, domineering, dangerous brother, who, unlike Gabriel, followed their father's footsteps into the world of organized crime. He demands that I pack my bags and go with him. I refuse, fight and argue, but the thing about Dominic De Luca is that one way or another, he always gets his way.

Dominic De Luca -
There's a code between brothers. I should know. I have a lot of them.

Don't lie.

Don't steal from each other.

Don't f each other's women *without permission*.

This particular situation made that last one a little less black and white because my brother, my first best friend, the guy who shared a womb with me, failed to tell me that the bartender he'd been seeing was Roselyn Vega. Of course, he wouldn't tell me. Now the voice message he left before he completely disappeared makes sense. "Take care of her. Don't f her."

Usually, that wouldn't be a problem (read: the code), but it's a little tricky this time. You see, Rosie was mine before he took her from me ten years ago, and many things have changed during that time. I've changed, my circumstances have changed, but my confounding, obnoxious crush on Rosie? Yeah, that's still the same. He left her in my care and warned me not to do anything, but I'm not making any promises.

**Because I Want You is a complete standalone novel set in the same world as Because You're Mine and Because I Need You

Review:

What a great read! Everything Claire Contreras writes is incredible to me and this story is right on par with all of her others. It was so good to be back in this mafia, forbidden world! I loved getting to read Dominic’s story. I loved the connection he and Rosie had since childhood. I loved that there was a little bit of drama between he and Gabe over the girl, just keeps things a little spicy and interesting, right?? This book has just the right level of drama and angst with some really good spicy scenes and love that you can’t help but love. I also really enjoyed getting to see the other characters I’ve already fallen in love with in the earlier Because series books. All of these characters are so well written and developed, reading this book makes you feel like you know them personally and are a part of their circle. I’d love to go out for a girls night with Yari, Catalina, Isabel, and Petra! I’m sure spending time with Dom, Gio, Loren, and the rest of the guys would be intimidating and 🔥 I liked getting to see Rosie have her own life that she was able to hold on to amidst all the chaos and still be able to be there for her family. I hate the position that her family allowed her to be in and simultaneously also love that I know Dom would never let that happen again. Overall, I really enjoyed this story and I am hoping there will be more to this series!! I’d love to read Gabe’s story next!!

The Rulebreaker by Claire Contreras Review and Release Blitz!

He's a player. I'm a virgin. Yet, I can't seem to stop myself.

The Rulebreaker by Claire Contreras is now live!

Maverick Cruz and I started off as pen pals and became besties when we went to the same sports camp at age twelve.

He rooted for me at my soccer games.
I cheered for him at his hockey tournaments.

Through heartbreaks, new relationships, and failed friendships, we knew we could always count on each other.

That's why no one is more surprised--or panicked-- than I am when I start to develop different feelings for him. But Instead of telling him the truth, I agree to help him find a girlfriend.

Someone who is not me.

Someone who is so opposite of me that I have to make a list for the charade. The problem is, he wants to practice his dating skills with me. The corny pickup lines, the hand-holding, the door opening, the staring.

Before this, I thought sharing a house with him was an excellent idea. Who wouldn't want to room with their best friend? Now, the close proximity is killing me. What's worse is that I can't stop looking at him like he's a Greek god, and he can't stop seeing me as his virginal little sister. Still, I push it aside, until one night, when he's lying beside me in bed and I'm the one who forgets the rules and crosses the line between friends and something more.

It's a horrible idea. He's a player. I'm a virgin. Yet, I can't seem to stop myself.

New item on my list: DO NOT FALL FOR YOUR BEST FRIEND.

REVIEW:

I feel like I'm always starting my reviews on Claire's books with comments like, "She did it again," or "What can I say? Another incredible story." But you know what? She did do it again, she did give us another incredible story! This is why Claire Contreras is one of my favorite authors- it doesn't matter if she's writing sports romance (which this one is- hockey and soccer to be specific), or a sexy, intriguing goth romance or a book filled with so much angst that'll make you want to throw your book from time to time, but she always writes an incredible story. This book is no different. The Rulebreaker is a complete stand alone, friends to lovers romance with some college sports mixed in. It follows The Heartbreaker which focuses on Jagger Cruz (one of the delightful Cruz brothers), but The Heartbreaker does not have to be read first. Do I recommend it? Of course, because I also loved it, but again- you don't have to.

Without going into too much detail so I can keep this review spoiler free, The Rulebreaker is just what I needed to read. It's light, filled with familiar characters I love from The Heartbreaker and just had me rooting and cheering for the two main characters, Rocky and Maverick, the whole time. There are plenty of times I want to smack Maverick over the head for dumb comments and there are other times I want to shake Rocky to ask her what she's doing, but overall I just really loved both their characters. I also loved the overall theme of family in this book. These two characters basically grew up together so they are close to the others' parents and vice versa and I just loved the relationships these families had. I love that the Cruz brothers are so close and that they look out for one another. I love that they include those who aren't blood relatives as if they were. I love the sage advice both sets of parents seem to give and that Rocky and Mav both love and respect and listen to their parents. I also love that this is a fun, college romance. Both Rocky and Maverick have goals they are determined to accomplish, but they still enjoy their lives as their story is unfolding and it was just...fun to read.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story and I hope you'll take a chance on it too!

The Heartbreaker by Claire Contreras Release Blitz!

They say you never forget your first.
Falling for my roommate is a terrible idea.

The Heartbreaker by Claire Contreras is now live!

They say you never forget your first.

Jagger Cruz, the popular, gorgeous, athletic, heartbreaker, was my introduction to college flings.

Over the years, I've tried to pay no attention to every wicked rumor I heard about him, even though deep down I knew they weren't just rumors. Unable to face the consequences of what we'd done, if we were ever in close quarters, I ran in the other direction. If we were coincidentally put in the same class, I dropped it.

Avoidance was the name of the game and so far I was winning.

That is, until we're assigned the same apartment.

Living with Jagger during my last semester was definitely not in my plans, but I'm determined to make it work. As long as I don't look at him for too long or let his innuendos get under my skin, I should be fine, right? I have to be.

They say hooking up with your roommate can be messy, and losing my heart to Jagger would be disastrous.

REVIEW!

I was lucky enough to get an early copy of this book and am so thrilled I did.

Another one done in less than 24 hours!

There are some authors that you love so much that whatever the plot of their book is, you know you’re going to read it because you just know already you’ll love it. That is the case with my love for Claire Contreras and her writing. There is not one book of hers that I’ve read and have not loved.

This book, The Heartbreaker, was exactly what I needed in my life right now. I recently finished a pretty heavy, dark book and while there’s a time and place for that and I usually love them, there’s so much darkness in the world right now that it was just incredibly refreshing to read Jagger and Jo’s story.

It was a light, easy to read, happy (for the most part), fun book to read. There was just enough angst to keep things interesting and the (as usual) incredible character development that makes you feel like you’re a fly on the wall, living in the world of these characters.

I don’t know if there are plans for this book to be a series, but I hope it ends up being one. I would love to follow Jagger’s brothers and find out how their stories play out. I obviously want to know about Misty, Jo’s sister, too. Both of these families just seem so real and so loving, even if flawed, that you can’t help but want to know more.

What an enjoyable, pleasant read. Thank you for another wonderful book, Claire! Can’t wait for the next one.

The Wicked Prince by Claire Contreras Book Review!

""That's the thing, I don't... I'm not pretending."" - Claire Contreras, The Wicked Prince

What a book! As per usual, Claire Contreras wrote another amazing book.

We start off with our two new main characters, Aramis and Joslyn. I love how relatable Contreras made Aramis and Joss, even though Aramis is a freaking prince lol. He just seemed like he could be any guy who goes through a traumatic event and takes a look at his life and how he might need to make some changes afterwards.

Then, just add in his brother is the King of France 😅

I also loved Joslyn’s character. She’s the type of girl who is there for the people she loves, no matter what they need. She’s employed by The Crown but she’s best friends with most of them and focused on one of them in particular.

I loved the back and forth with the two main characters and their feelings for one another because again I think it could be pretty realistic, especially for a couple who’ve been together in the past but didn’t take it seriously then.

Overall, I really enjoyed how this story evolved. It was light hearted but still had the substance that all Claire Contreras novels have. It was also great to hear more about my favorite characters The Sinful King! I'm sad that this will be the last book in the series, but I feel like I got a good understanding of all the characters of this royal family and am so glad I got to know them, if only through the pages of this book!

Hope you'll check it out!

Happy reading, friends!

The Sinful King by Claire Contreras Book Review!

""You don't curtsy to me," he said into my ear. "Are you not my King?" "Are you not my world?"" - Claire Contreras, The Sinful King

Go ahead and tell me that quote does not make you swoon...

Anyway...

Claire Contreras has done it again! Somehow I missed her release of this book and I am now so sad for all the time I’ve missed out on having read this book, but I guess I could reframe it as how exciting it is I’m just now getting to read it for the first time as I get ready to read another new book in this series!

I loved this story so much. It’s truly the ultimate fairytale. Usually I read books that have at least one hugely traumatic thing or characters who do bad things, but this book was not that and it was such a breath of fresh air. It was sweet, it was light, it was airy and dreamy. There was a little amount of angst wondering if our two main characters, Adeline and Elias, will end up together or not. In fact, I think it was until about 60-65% into the book I was constantly questioning how it was going to go.

It ended so well, though. There are so many quotes I loved in this book, so many moments, but I’m afraid if I posted those I’d end up spoiling the book for anyone who may be reading my review so I’ll refrain for now on that. Maybe I’ll add them later. We will see. Either way, for now, this is my review... 5 stars.

I loved it. Love everything Claire Contreras writes and this is no different. Go read it!

Happy reading!

Fables & Other Lies by Claire Contreras Book Review!

"I pity those who can't get lost in fictional worlds." - Claire Contreras, Fables & Other Lies

I mean, come on! You can't be a reader and not love that line! Even more so, it's from our leading man who said it...swoon! River is giving me real Jess vibes from Gilmore Girls and I am HERE FOR IT!

Just FYI:
Fables & Other Lies releases on December 21st (I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review) and I can't wait for you to read it! The cover hasn't been revealed yet, otherwise I'd be putting that beauty right about here ;)

 Without further ado...

This book was so good! It’s so different from the other books this author has written, but I love that. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge Claire Contreras fan and pretty much adore every word she’s ever written! This one was just different, though. She described it one day in her reader group as weird online, and it was a little weird, a little mystical, and so addicting, all of those in the best ways possible!

The setting of this book makes such a big difference, and I've never wanted to know more about a fictional place more!

At first, hearing this book described as a “gothic romance” caught me off guard and made me a little hesitant, to be honest. I was afraid it would be creepy or too off base from what I normally read, but I was so wrong and now I want to find more gothic romances!! Yes, there’s a little bit of creepiness, mystery and intrigue, but that just kept me guessing and flipping the pages quickly!

Throughout the book, I often wondered if the story was going to end up more in the paranormal spectrum than what I am used to reading. I was constantly questioning, constantly wondering how the story would end up, and that’s one of the things I love most about a good book. I hate it when a book is so predictable and this one was far from it! I was really happy with the end result of this book and may have a new Claire Contreras leading man I love! 🖤

I hope you'll take the chance and jump in for a suspenseful, wild, romantic ride when this book releases on the 21st. I say treat yourself and add this book to your own Christmas list!

Happy holidays, friends and as always... Happy Reading!!

Twisted Circles by Claire Contreras Book Review!

"When someone tells you who they are, do you believe them?" - Claire Contreras, Twisted Circles

I love that quote and I love how aptly it matches the whole point of this book.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review and I am so thankful I was selected! Since having read Half Truths, the first book in this series, I have been so anticipating this story!!

Twisted Circles did not disappoint in any shape or form. Similarly to the first book in the series, this book focuses on a group of people connected to the prestigious Ellis University (an Ivy League) as well as a secret society on its campus. This book primarily focuses on Eva Guerra who wakes up without memory of what happened over the weekend. What she does find is two mysterious keys in her backpack as well as being questioned by the police, then asked to do something beyond anything you would've ever expected. This starts Eva off on a quest of trying to find out what happened over the weekend, why she can't remember it, and ultimately gaining more questions than answers.

This book is a dual POV story. Most of the chapters are from Eva's perspective, but some of them are from Adam, President of The Swords, a secret society on campus that Eva plans to learn more about. There is so much mystery and suspense in this story, it constantly keeps your attention and keeps the pages turning quickly. It's one of those that you may have to finally force yourself to put down at 1 am so that you can pick it back up again as early as possible the next day orrrr just pull an all-nighter because it's that good and you can't put it down!

I loved this storyline. Like I mentioned above, it provided the same amount of suspense and excitement as the first book in the series.

I really enjoyed Eva's character. She was adopted at a few months old and grew up with her adoptive mother, Karen. Eva had a difficult childhood growing up and as she grew, often found herself in and out of treatment at a place called The Institute. Dr. Debbie Maslow has treated Eva since she was an infant and Eva regards Dr. Maslow almost in a maternal fashion. To me, this pulled on my spidey senses because I am already sensing some poor boundaries between doctor and patient, and oh how right I was! I won't go in to detail because this is going to be a spoiler free review, but once you read the book, you will definitely see what I mean!

Eva seems to have a hard time finding any confidence in herself. It's no wonder given the circumstances she grew up in and what you find out later in the book has happened to her, but it is amazing to see the evolution of her character and how strong she starts to become. Eva goes through quite a bit in this book- there are highs and lows, and while she has to fight some of the defense mechanisms she's developed most her life, she ultimately is able to fight for what she loves.

Speaking of love, enter... Adam.

He was introduced to us briefly in Half Truths. I remember reading the end of that book thinking, man, I hope we get Adam's story, and look at that... we did! While we definitely got to get to know Adam a little more in this book, I will say I wish I could've gotten a little more about him. I wish he would've had a few more chapters from his POV, or maybe talked a little bit more about his life before Eva came in to it. I'm not sure what I felt like is missing, and I don't necessarily mean to use the word missing, I think I just wanted more! He seems like such a standup, respectful, thoughtful, and loving guy, you can't not want more of that, am I right? Even though they may have had a rocky start, Adam is a constant for Eva through all the struggles she endured in this book. He is the type of guy you would want to have by your side, helping you, supporting you, encouraging you, and listening to you. When Eva said she needed space, he gave her space. When she needed help but hadn't even thought to ask, he already had a plan in place on how he could help. And it's not only Adam that brought love into Eva's life, but he brought his friends and family which only extended the amount of people who ended up loving on Eva as well. Overall, I just felt like Adam was a star character, a stand up guy and someone I think makes a great partner in a story like this! We’ll forgive him for his only real flaw- a poor attempt at a psycho analysis 😉

Okay, that’s probably enough raving about the characters. I hope I peaked your interest enough in these two characters to want to dive in to this book. I don’t want to go into too much more detail because I’m afraid I’ll spoil something and I want you to have the complete experience when you read this book! It’s different from most other books out there right now and I don’t know about you, but it’s been so good for me to be able to escape the catastrophe that is 2020 and submerge myself into this suspenseful, exciting fictional book world.

As always- Happy reading, friends!

Current Read!

I am SO excited to have the opportunity to read an ARC of Twisted Circles by Claire Contreras before the book's release date! I have been not-so-patiently awaiting this release and it is finally almost here!!

Below is the blurb- hope it peaks your interest like it did mine!

When someone tells you who you are, do you believe them?

The first question the cops asked me was if anything out of the ordinary happened to me lately.

When I woke up this morning in the room of a mental institution I couldn’t remember a thing – not my name nor how I got there. Not how I left or how I ended up in that interrogation room.

The only thing I knew came from the contents inside my bag. A wallet, a student ID, a key that opened an unknown door, and two notebooks.

They tell me my name. It matches my IDs.

They tell me my story. I shut my eyes and try to piece it together, but can’t.

They tell me why they picked me up in the first place. They thought I was my sister. My brain stays stuck there. I try to rewind and fast-forward, as if my memories were on a videotape, but it’s no use. I can’t recall having a sister.

They put me back in the car and drop me off in front of a mansion they call The Manor and I discover what the mysterious key in my backpack opens the front door, and just as quickly wish I’d never unlocked it at all.

Hopefully that pulled you in like it did me!

If it did, here are the ways to get it and read more about it!

Because You're Mine by Claire Contreras

“For the record, I would’ve carried you.” “Huh?”
“You said your feet hurt too much to wear heels,” he says.
“I would’ve carried you.””

Isn’t that quote the type of love every girl wants to hear?!

This book has plenty of it!

I would definitely recommend this book!

Here's a quick one sentence recap of the book to me:

It doesn’t matter if Loren is a badass mafia man, he’s found his weakness in Cat.

After reading Half Truths, another book by this author that I gave 5 stars and recently reviewed (check the previous post!), I was in the mood to read more of her writing so I snagged this one up!

I really enjoyed Because You're Mine and the storyline overall. I felt like there was definitely more to be explored in many of the characters so that’s why I gave it 4 (more like 4.5) stars versus 5, but this book, just like her others, kept my attention the whole way through!

I love that this book has both the male and female POV. I feel like Cat’s thoughts are exactly like what mine would be if I were in her place. Can you imagine being one of two daughters in a mafia family who’s mother had to disappear and you’re not in a good place with your father for obvious reasons? That would be hard.

As always, I love a male perspective. It’s easy for me to understand the female brain as I am one, but males are another species entirely. I love hearing Loren’s thoughts. I wish there had been a little more about the business side of the book and not just about his feelings for Cat, though of course I love reading that too. The mafia just intrigues me lately, I guess!

I really loved the interaction in Joe’s car between Joe and Loren. The two alphas trying to establish their dominancy, but also an understanding between each other regarding someone they mutually love.

I wish we would’ve been able to get a chapter from Gio’s perspective or even Joe’s but my guess is that wound entail a whole new book!

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. There was suspense, there was family, there was friendship and there was love. I loved all the characters in this story (except for Vinny) and will continue supporting and loving this author and her writing! Go check it out!
