Review:

Who doesn’t need a sweet story this time of year? This is the story you need to read in December when all you want to do is cuddle up and watch a good Hallmark movie but life gets in the way. I love that we learn so much about Hannah and Gage, individually. I feel like this author has a way of painting such a detailed picture of each character in this book that you can easily understand why each one acts/thinks the way that they do throughout this book. One of my favorite things about this book was Gage and how much he really pursued Hannah, without overdoing it, without making her uncomfortable, without risking it all but also repeatedly trying to get how he feels across. He balances it so delicately but I thought it was so refreshing to read a man’s story who is so sure of what he wants but also wants and values this other person so much that he’d rather risk hurting himself than her. I also loved Hannah, though. There’s such a realism to her character. We all have our flaws, we all have our habits, healthy or not, end I loved the delicate way she worked through them herself with help from a few others. The will they, won’t they of this story kept me reading until the very end. I’m so glad I added this book to my reading list for December, it was such a treat! *Review written in exchange of an honest review.

Review:

I have to be honest. I was on the fence about how I would feel about this book. Let me be clear, I am obsessed with everything Rachel Van Dyken has ever written (at least that I’ve read, which is most of her books). However, I was… anxious about this one because I just wasn’t sure. I wasn’t sure because I truthfully have no experience, no knowledge, no understanding of what k-pop is. I’ve heard of it. Never listened to it. Never looked into the fandom. Don’t really know anything about it except that a few people I follow online have mentioned it and are obsessed with it. I was afraid I wouldn’t connect with this book because I wasn’t/I’m not a part of that fandom. Now? After reading it? I realize there was zero reason to be concerned. Not only did RVD make me super curious about looking into the real world of k-pop, but she wrote another incredible story. There are very few authors who can world build as well as she can. I truly felt like I was a part of SWT, watching in live time as all of their story played out. I felt all of the characters’ emotions. I fell in love with all of them, all for different reasons. There were times I wanted to cry, scream, laugh, clap and hug. This book brought the typical RVD grit and anguish and angst I am used to, but also the love. The deep, soul crushing and reviving love. This story goes beyond any label you could put on it. I just want to say, if there’s anyone out there like me who thought maybe this isn’t the book for them because they aren’t part of the k-pop fandom, please take the chance and read this! I am so glad I did. I loved learning about the background of what musicians have to go through in Korea. I loved the juxtaposition of how Grace didn’t and did fit in. I loved it all. Another incredibly well written story, RVD. I can’t wait to read what comes next. Oh, and… Sookie might just be my favorite 😭🥰 Of course I love Lucas, and Rae, and Jay, and Kai… okay I loved all of them, but Sookie towards the end just… all the feels.

What a clever idea for a book. This was a refreshing read for me because its different than any others I’ve read recently. There’s mystery, and intrigue, and passion, and love. There’s lies, and loss, and sadness, and grief. There’s such an array of emotions this book covers. I tried to imagine myself in both his and her positions throughout the book and I can’t imagine how I would’ve handled any of it. A woman washes up on your beach on death’s door with no memory. You’re a person who likes to keep to yourself and for that reason, likes living in a secluded hut off the coast of Panama. Top it all off with the woman having amnesia and no recollection of herself or why she’s come to in Panama… this book was a wild ride! The character development was great and I was entertained the entire way through. This is surprisingly my first RC Boldt book I’ve read in a while but I’ll be adding more to my TBR now!!
