Hard to Lose by K. Bromberg Release Blitz!

Hard to Lose by K. Bromberg is now live!

New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, brings you a romance about love, forgiveness, and living every day to the fullest.

I know finding and signing a military vet to the agency is a long shot--but it'll be good press just letting him try out. That's what I tell my family, rather than admit I can't get the letter he wrote us five years ago out of my head.

But what I tell the bartender in his hometown is a lie. I know veterans protect each other. So I pretend to be a graduate student.

Sparks. Flame. Fire. I accidentally got in too deep.

I didn't expect to develop feelings for Gunner Camden.

And there's no way I can admit to my lies now, not without destroying what we share. So I'll keep faking it.

***

There are two versions of me: before, and after deployment.

Back then I was a screwup kid. I'd lie, cheat, and steal my way out of everything. My only love was baseball.

After I started fighting, I found out there had been another path for me. One that involved my dream. But by then I had seen too much.

The old me was dead, so I put my dreams to rest, too.

Then Chase Kinkade walks into my bar and reminds me that life is meant to live. No regrets.

Fresh. Happy. Hopeful. I can start to see a new dream, with her.

But sometimes things are too good to be true... and dishonesty is the one thing I can't forgive.

Review:

I  have to make a confession. This is the first K Bromberg book I have read in a while. I was lucky enough to get an early copy of this book and I am so glad I did! It quickly reminded (I’m talking within the first 5% of the book) how excellent a writer K Bromberg is and that I’m definitely going to have to read more of her books again. One of my top favorites is from her, the Driven series. Do your self a favor and check it out if you haven’t!

Enough about that though, let’s talk about Hard to Lose. This story follows Chase, the youngest sister of 3 girls, and Gunner Camden, a war hero who has a lot of trauma in his past. This book is part of a series, but is a complete standalone. So much so that I didn’t even read or feel like I had to read the first book in the series to comfortably jump in to this one. That says a lot, because I don’t think I’ve ever done that before! Naturally though, because of how good this book was, the others in the series immediately went into my TBR piles!

Chase is a sports agent in her family business and is constantly trying to outperform and show her family how efficient and talented she is. This isn’t done in a snobby way at all, more of a younger sibling just trying to prove themself to the older ones. She is highly motivated and attacks the day and her goals with a fire that is beyond impressive. Her go get ‘em attitude I think is one of the things Gunner falls in love with first! That and her overall confidence. Chase is the type of girl that everyone wants to be!

Gunner has created an incredible life for himself after a lifetime of trouble, people who were supposed to love him letting him down, and multiple traumas from his childhood and his time serving overseas. The thing I love most about Gunner’s character is his passion for helping other kids who’ve gone through similar situations as him. He shares his love, his passion, his compassion, to those who need it and deserve it more than anyone but often get overlooked. If a girl doesn’t fall in love with a man like Gunner, I’d have to wonder what’s missing with her!

While I’ve painted the dreamboat picture of Gunner and a fierce picture of Chase, they both have their downfalls. Their chemistry is on fire and you can tell that just through reading their story which is pretty incredible. The fire can burn, though, and sometimes when two people who are both a little guarded with their feelings and not comfortable with being vulnerable get together, they can end up hurting each other. Deceit is something Gunner has said he can’t come back from. Chase didn’t know it at the start, but is now struggling with a major decision on what to do.

The end of this story is angsty and heartbreaking and leaves you wondering how it’s all going to play out. I’ll be honest, it didn’t end the way I thought it would. It ended similarly, but let’s just say I expected the roles to be reversed at the end, but I think it worked out well in the end!

I really enjoyed this story and hope you’ll take a chance on it too!

Black Velvet and Lace by Heather Lauren Book Review!

I was given the opportunity to read this book before the release date and I am so glad I could! This was a fun read. Heather Lauren, the author of Black Velvet and Lace, is a new author to me and she will be an author I follow moving forward! Her writing is easy to read and easy to follow. Her characters’ conversations are conversations you’ve likely had with your friends and family. She makes musicians, songwriters and record company executives sound like the girl or boy next door, which of course this southern girl always loves and appreciates.

I loved following along with the development of Charlie and Hudson’s story. The ‘will they, won’t they’ saga I think could’ve been a little shorter had the two main characters practiced more direct communication with each other, but that’s a struggle for everyone in real life sometimes, isn’t it?

If there was one negative to this book for me, that was probably it. I felt like both of the characters kind of made excuses or prevented themselves from being happy, but again, I think that is a reality of life so I understand it and even appreciate it.

There were so many great things about this book, though.  I loved all the characters, even all the side characters spoke to my heart and made me hope they each get their own spin off story! I also just really loved Charlie’s development story and how Hudson did help her but ultimately she ended up helping herself too. There were plenty of steamy scenes in the book and you could feel the chemistry between the characters. Oh, and I finished this book really wanting to try a black velvet and lace drink for myself, so... I’m off to try a new cocktail and hope y’all will give this book a try!

Happy reading!!

Perfect Wreckage by Catherine Cowles Book Review!

"If you really want to live your life to the fullest, you have to let go of who you think you should be and let yourself become who you truly are." - Catherine Cowles, Perfect Wreckage

That quote got me. It is a great summary of what this book really is about. This story follows Kenna and Crosby. This is the second book in the Wrecked series. I originally didn't think I could like a second book in a series more than I liked the first, but... I do. I loved Kenna and Crosby's story. Don't get me wrong, I love Bell and Ford in Reckless Memories, but there is just something about Kenna and Crosby to me.

Even in Reckless Memories, we would get snippets of Crosby teasing or poking at 'Brown Eyes' and her not giving him the time of day, but still not hating his attention and affection. Even as a side character, Crosby seemed like he had a kind heart and Kenna desperately needed that. Kenna, in the first book, seemed like such a badass but also untouchable. She is close with Bell and Caelyn, but that was about it.

Through this book we learn a lot more about Kenna and what has made her into the impenetrable force that she is. She has gone through a lot in her life, after having a mother who never acted as a mother but more of a toxic relationship, a father she never knew, and  several other traumas that you'll read about if  you read this book. It helped me to realize how big of a fighter she truly is, and also why she fights so hard to let people in. She's been let down way too many times to be willing to be vulnerable again. This is another one of those super relatable characters that I love to read about. I also just want to give Kenna a big hug.

Crosby grew up in a very affluent family, but didn't have the perfect family life that you may expect. He had his basic needs covered while there are plenty that don't, but he definitely has scars from growing up with his family. These scars prevent him from being vulnerable with others as well. He's constantly searching for that freedom, that adrenaline high to remind him he's alive and he's his own man.

When Crosby starts to get to know Kenna more and more, he finds himself conflicted internally. Will he be able to "give up" that freedom that he so desperately needs to settle down with someone? Will Kenna be able to open herself up to the possibility of getting hurt again?

This story was just so good. It kept me flipping the pages and wanting to know more and more. I can't finish my review without mentioning two other characters though: Harriet and Zoe. I loved Harriet's character for Kenna. She stepped in when Kenna's own biological mother couldn't be bothered. Harriet shared her home, her heart, her love, and her wisdom, and Kenna became all the better for it. Everyone deserves to have a Harriet in their lives. And Zoe... sweet Zoe! I love Crosby's heart for donating so much of his time and legal expertise to help kids in the foster care system. Zoe is one of those kids and a kid Crosby was able to save from a terrible foster home situation based on his intuition and gut. I love the heart Crosby has for Zoe and Kenna as well after Crosby introduced them. This was just another section of this book that just...made my heart smile.

Reckless Memories by Catherine Cowles Book Review!

“I’d get hit with a memory of the two of us, the reckless kind, the kind that lit a fire in me to call her, to see her. Those reckless memories would almost bring me to my knees.” - Catherine Cowles, Reckless Memories

Reckless Memories was my first Catherine Cowles book and it’s safe to say, I will definitely be reading more of her books. This book was very well written. The characters had enough time to really be developed and I feel like I even got to know the side characters pretty well, which is an added bonus. This book easily sets up a long series to follow each of these characters and I am here for it.

The emotions of this book were intense. There is a lot about loss so be forewarned if that may be a sensitive topic for you. I think the book depicts this scenario well, though. I like that it shows how loss can effect different people in different ways.

Bell, our main female lead, is the epitome of strength. She has experienced devastating losses and horrible trauma but continues to fight the good fight. Her family was a disappointment to say the least, but instead of wallowing in that, she made a family for herself that is even stronger than most have. She loves fiercely and is a survivor.

Ford brings mixed emotions, at least at the beginning of the book. He goes through a great loss as well, but he responds by leaving. We later find out it was a lot more complicated than him just cutting and running, but my heart hurt for Bell when he left. After all we learn later in the book, I still feel like he should’ve known Bell better.

What I do love about Ford is that he learns his mistakes, owns them, and makes up for them. That may sound simple, but it’s a thing many men, heck many women too, truly struggle with. When Ford wants something, he clearly goes after it and succeeds. He was Bell’s rock as kids and he’s back and ready to be there for Bell now. The question is will she let him? Will she learn to trust him again? Can she put her heart on the line for him?

You’ll have to read it to find out! I hope you will. I can’t wait to start the second book in this series!

Happy reading!

The Wicked Prince by Claire Contreras Book Review!

""That's the thing, I don't... I'm not pretending."" - Claire Contreras, The Wicked Prince

What a book! As per usual, Claire Contreras wrote another amazing book.

We start off with our two new main characters, Aramis and Joslyn. I love how relatable Contreras made Aramis and Joss, even though Aramis is a freaking prince lol. He just seemed like he could be any guy who goes through a traumatic event and takes a look at his life and how he might need to make some changes afterwards.

Then, just add in his brother is the King of France 😅

I also loved Joslyn’s character. She’s the type of girl who is there for the people she loves, no matter what they need. She’s employed by The Crown but she’s best friends with most of them and focused on one of them in particular.

I loved the back and forth with the two main characters and their feelings for one another because again I think it could be pretty realistic, especially for a couple who’ve been together in the past but didn’t take it seriously then.

Overall, I really enjoyed how this story evolved. It was light hearted but still had the substance that all Claire Contreras novels have. It was also great to hear more about my favorite characters The Sinful King! I'm sad that this will be the last book in the series, but I feel like I got a good understanding of all the characters of this royal family and am so glad I got to know them, if only through the pages of this book!

Hope you'll check it out!

The Sinful King by Claire Contreras Book Review!

""You don't curtsy to me," he said into my ear. "Are you not my King?" "Are you not my world?"" - Claire Contreras, The Sinful King

Go ahead and tell me that quote does not make you swoon...

Anyway...

Claire Contreras has done it again! Somehow I missed her release of this book and I am now so sad for all the time I’ve missed out on having read this book, but I guess I could reframe it as how exciting it is I’m just now getting to read it for the first time as I get ready to read another new book in this series!

I loved this story so much. It’s truly the ultimate fairytale. Usually I read books that have at least one hugely traumatic thing or characters who do bad things, but this book was not that and it was such a breath of fresh air. It was sweet, it was light, it was airy and dreamy. There was a little amount of angst wondering if our two main characters, Adeline and Elias, will end up together or not. In fact, I think it was until about 60-65% into the book I was constantly questioning how it was going to go.

It ended so well, though. There are so many quotes I loved in this book, so many moments, but I’m afraid if I posted those I’d end up spoiling the book for anyone who may be reading my review so I’ll refrain for now on that. Maybe I’ll add them later. We will see. Either way, for now, this is my review... 5 stars.

I loved it. Love everything Claire Contreras writes and this is no different. Go read it!

Happy reading!

When We Met by Marni Mann Book Review!

"I can't recall anything from before my surgery, except for your eyes. They held me like a blanket... I didn't want them to let me go." - Marni Mann, When We Met

After having a little time to think after completing this book, this title may be one of the most appropriate titles to a book I've ever experienced. You'll know what I mean if/when you read this book!!

Anyway...

I really enjoyed this book overall. I loved the characters and the character development. I was invested in how Whitney’s life would go and of course, Caleb’s.

Part 2 of this book threw me for a loop, though. I didn’t understand why what was happening was happening. I read through most of part 2 confused and wondering how the story was going to end. By the end of the book, it definitely made sense and brought it all together, but I wish there was some way I could’ve known as a reader what was going on. I guess that could’ve altered the ending though or how important the ending was so I get it and like I mentioned, I ended up really liking the book overall. Whitney is the type of character everyone would know and love and want to have as a friend. Caleb is the ultimate man- workaholic, can’t slow down until he falls for the girl who helps him see the real value in life.

If you can't tell, these characters made this book for me. I love them all so much.

❤️ This story is definitely worth a read, I hope you’ll check it out!

When Ashes Fall by Marni Mann Book Review!

"No, I don't want to run. Unless it's toward you, and then my answer is yes." - Marni Mann, When Ashes Fall

So... this book snuck up on me! I won an ebook copy of this book in a Facebook group member giveaway. I was of course excited to win any new book, but after my last book binge finished, I decided to check out that new book I’d just received. I read the blurb about this book and was intrigued. Lately I haven’t been really excited about many new books/book blurbs I read so I was pleasantly surprised when I read this description:

It’s said that you can’t love two men at the same time. You can’t split your heart, soul, and body in half. But I’m here to tell you, you can. Dylan Cole is like ice, sharp and predictable, the thunder inside a tumultuous storm. Smith Reid is warmth, soft and gentle, perfect like a sunny day. Both are mine. But I can only have one. There are two sides to this tale. I’m here to tell you mine. If you think this story is about a cheater, you couldn’t be more wrong.

Like I said- my initial reaction? Intrigue. My second reaction as I read the above blurb- hmm, I don’t want to read a love triangle or anything about cheating. My third reaction- well, that answers that and I looped back around to intrigue!

This book kept me guessing. Not for long, but only because I inhaled this story in less than 24 hours. I couldn’t stop reading.

I thought I had an idea of what was going on, but then by the next two chapters I was unsure and thought maybe something else was going on. My initial guess of what was going on ended up being correct, but in no way would I label this book as predictable. It kept me on my toes and constantly invested to see how the story was going to end.

I don’t want to go into too much detail because I want you to experience this spoiler free yourself, but just know- this was a 5 star read for me and I highly recommend it!
