The Love Plot by Samantha Young Review and Release Blitz!

The Love Plot by Samantha Young is now live!

There’s a magnetic attraction when a happy-go-lucky gig worker agrees to a fake relationship with a rich, uptight New Yorker in this steamy romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Samantha Young.

Star Shine Meadows is all about freedom, thanks to the hippie parents who raised her. Juggling her jobs as a professional costume character actor and a line sitter, she believes in no expectations, no stressful ambitions, and no-strings-attached relationships. So when she meets a birthday girl’s grumpy uncle while working a princess party, she can’t help but needle him. She’ll never see him again, and honestly, he's pretty hot.

Rafe Whitman may be a veterinarian with a great bedside manner, but that doesn’t mean his patience extends to anyone with opposable thumbs. His family will not stop nagging him about finding “the one,” so when he runs into obnoxiously cheery Star again, he makes her an offer: He’ll pay her more than she would make doing her odd jobs if she’ll pretend to be his girlfriend at family gatherings. She can stop sitting in line waiting for someone else’s new phone, and he’ll get his family off his back.

When the tension between them heats to a breaking point, Star’s desire for "no strings" is tested against Rafe’s staunch stability. They say opposites attract, after all....

Review:

I love that feeling when you finish a book smiling and can recall multiple moments throughout said book where you had that same smile on your face. Samantha Young has an incredible talent in the way she’s able to write a story and create characters that can leave the reader feeling like they’ve truly connected with these fictional characters and are rooting them on. There were 3 or 4 conversations specifically I can remember between our main characters, Star and Rafe, that just made me smile, made me feel good about love and life and the world, and that is a testament to the writer of this book. It’s also not something that frequently occurs for me after completing a book, so I know this one will likely be staying with me for a while.

I have to admit, it took me a little while at the beginning to connect with Star’s character, probably more similar to Rafe’s initial reaction than I care to admit. Her positive, always look for the good attitude is infectious though and when you get over the initial disbelief that someone can’t truly be that positive all the time, it makes you see how endearing of a character she really is. I became a huge fan of hers like so many others in the story did too. It also challenged my own attitude as a reader in how I see myself and the world as I watched her character develop.

I also loved watching Rafe’s character transform, though I think he was probably the same loving, loyal, kind guy throughout the book- just with an initial grumpy exterior! I love a good grumpy/sunshine story and this book is definitely representative of that. I’ve already discussed Star’s aforementioned sunny disposition, but Rafe can be standoffish to the world and appears as though he has no interest in anything but his work. You come to learn more about him as a reader though and find out how much and how well he can love others and what a gift that is to behold.

He and Star have incredible chemistry. They might’ve signed up to be in a fake relationship but as their fake relationship progresses, they begin treating each other in a way those in real relationships hope to experience. They treat each other with respect, they hold each other accountable, they admit and apologize to each other when they’re wrong, and they listen to one another. I love the two of these perfectly imperfect characters and I know that any reader who takes the chance on reading this book will fall in love with them too! Oh, and the end- I LOVED the end! Go read it!!
