Can we just stop and swoon at two things? This GORGEOUS cover of a book. I love it so much for some reason. And...the quote at the top of this review. I mean, come on! Who wouldn't love a dreamboat who said that to them?!?!

Anyway, I digress! Let's talk a little about this book! 

What an interesting read! I don’t have a ton to say about it because I feel like I’m still processing what I read. There is so much subject matter in this book. 

There’s a lot to think about and consider, like: Jessica Day and the trauma she went through, who she has become and how, the relationship she has with Luke, the closeness of her relationship with her twin brother, Jackson and Jillian and the mess of their new lives in Omaha, the sweet caring of Lillith, the risqué job and attitude of Jillian in the retirement community, oh, and AJ. 

AJ AJ AJ. There is something about AJ that really pulls me in. My heart hurts for him.

 I hate his ex-wife, though in some regards I can’t blame her, especially if safety became a concern. I guess I just feel for the underdog, the wounded warrior. Maybe that’s why I love AJ and Jillian because they both are that in their own regard. 

I’m not going to go into any details about the book because this is just book one of a series and I’m sure I’ll do more detailed thoughts on the series when it’s done, but for now... I’ll say I am definitely intrigued. I am looking forward to reading the next book soon. I have a guess about what’s going on with AJ at the end of this book. I hope I’m wrong about that guess. I hope Jillian doesn’t freak out with whatever he tells her. Something in me really wants the best for all these characters and I hope they get it!

When Ashes Fall by Marni Mann Book Review!

So... this book snuck up on me! I won an ebook copy of this book in a Facebook group member giveaway. I was of course excited to win any new book, but after my last book binge finished, I decided to check out that new book I’d just received. I read the blurb about this book and was intrigued. Lately I haven’t been really excited about many new books/book blurbs I read so I was pleasantly surprised when I read this description:

It’s said that you can’t love two men at the same time. You can’t split your heart, soul, and body in half. But I’m here to tell you, you can. Dylan Cole is like ice, sharp and predictable, the thunder inside a tumultuous storm. Smith Reid is warmth, soft and gentle, perfect like a sunny day. Both are mine. But I can only have one. There are two sides to this tale. I’m here to tell you mine. If you think this story is about a cheater, you couldn’t be more wrong. 

Like I said- my initial reaction? Intrigue. My second reaction as I read the above blurb- hmm, I don’t want to read a love triangle or anything about cheating. My third reaction- well, that answers that and I looped back around to intrigue!

This book kept me guessing. Not for long, but only because I inhaled this story in less than 24 hours. I couldn’t stop reading. 

I thought I had an idea of what was going on, but then by the next two chapters I was unsure and thought maybe something else was going on. My initial guess of what was going on ended up being correct, but in no way would I label this book as predictable. It kept me on my toes and constantly invested to see how the story was going to end. 

I don’t want to go into too much detail because I want you to experience this spoiler free yourself, but just know- this was a 5 star read for me and I highly recommend it!

Fighting Fate by JB Salsbury

JB Salsbury has hit it out of the mother #$%@! park once again!

Fighting Fate holds it's own as the sixth installment in the Fighting Series, which introduces us to Axelle and Killian. Now if you've read the other books in this series, these two should be familiar to you, they're both introduced in Fighting to Forgive. The story of Axelle and Killian's friendship turned lovers turned big, confusing hot mess, is heartbreaking. There were times throughout this book that I wanted to straight up throw my Kindle at the wall and other times I wanted to curl up in a ball and just weep. JB knows how to write a story and even better, she knows how to write amazing characters that you'll never forget.

Axelle is your typical college student who likes to party, drink too much and has one really douchey boyfriend! Killian reminds me of poor Dawson in Dawson's Creek, always the friend, never the boyfriend. But when Axelle starts to realize what's right in front of her, she realizes that her feelings go much deeper than friendship when it comes to Killian.

Killian is they guy everyone loves. He's loyal, friendly and would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He's had feelings for Axelle since he laid eyes on her but has always felt he held the dreaded friends only card. When they both realize their feelings go beyond their friendship, their love blossoms into something wonderful.

But as we all know JB Salsbury is going to sideswipe you with a situation that will leave you saying "whooooaaaaaaa!"

Without giving anything away, Axelle makes a decision to let Killian go because he has the opportunity of a lifetime to train and fight in London and she refuses to hold him back because she needs help. Killian is heartbroken. He's confused and doesn't understand why Axelle would just push him away when she desperately needs him. So the question is, if you really do let love go, will it find its way back if it's meant to be?

The Friend Zone by Kristen Callihan - Review

I have quickly become a HUGE fan of Kristen Callihan's! The Friend Zone is the 2nd book in the Game On series and it doesn't disappoint. We first meet Gray Grayson aka Cupcake in the first book, The Hook Up and all you can think about is him being this major manwhore who just loves women but never settles down. Well that all changes when he meets, or shall I say, receives a text from Ivy Mackenzie aka Special Sauce.

The banter between these two was awesome. The texting was probably my favorite part of these two. You honestly felt like you were invading a private conversation, that's how "real life" the texts were. I know some people criticized about how you can become so connected to someone through a text before you've even met them, apparently those folks have never experienced it. I have and let me tell you, it's an amazing thing. You truly learn who that person is by just letters on a screen. You learn their personality before your eyes can make a judgement. And the fact that Gray and Ivy both were friends before realizing their attraction to each other was a beautiful thing. You really felt their connection and their friendship, which made their relationship that much stronger.

The pink Fiat just cracked me up and I can only imagine what Gray looked like climbing in and out of that thing! It cracks me just thinking about it! This story has it all, witty banter, drama, intensity and of course super duper sexiness!

Fighting for Forver by JB Salsbury - Review

The Fighting series by JB Salsbury never disappoints! She can write a story like a spider can weave a web. Her stories are constructed in a thoughtful, clever, sexy way that can only be described as epic! Every book in this series is amazing and you won’t be disappointed when you pick up the first book but I will warn you…you will become an addict!!

Fighting Forever was an amazing story of betrayal, sacrifice and love, with a whole lot of sexiness mixed in. This installment of the Fighting series is about Trix and Mason. Trix is a dancer at Zeus and we all know Mason as “Baywatch” from the other books in the series.  Trix is one of those characters that you just can’t forget. She’s dancing in a strip club not because she wants to, but because she’s on a mission to avenge her sister’s death. Trix never expects to meet someone who will make her question everything she is doing and possibly make her seek peace instead of revenge.

 

Mason aka Baywatch, never thought he’d need someone as much as he needs Trix. It takes one look at her and he sees right through her stripper façade, instead he sees a woman trying to fight her own demons and conquer the world at the same time. When Trix’s need for revenge and Mason’s family issues collide, they realize just how much they both need each other. 

I love how JB Salsbury gives you all the feels in her books but she also gives you suspense, drama and serious intensity, and boy does she know how to write an ending! The epilogue of Trix and Mason’s story had my heart melting into a pile of mush! 

I’m telling you, if you haven’t read one of JB’s books you need to! Stat with Fighting the Fight and I promise you will get sucked into a black hole of gorgeous, possessive but oh so lovable MMA fighters and their incredible women!

Trust In Me (Dark Nights #1) by Skye Warren

 

WARNING: This book contains explicit scenes of graphic violence and sex. It depicts abuse, captivity, sex slavery and human trafficking. This book is not appropriate for anyone uncomfortable with these types of situations or anyone under the age of eighteen. Personally I think you should be 21 but whatever!

This is the second book I've read by this author and I am still trying to process what I read. Skye Warren is not afraid to drag you to the depths of hell and make you immerse yourself in every emotion humanly possible. From the first page to the last , you are thrown into the deep end and left there to keep yourself afloat.

 
Mia is a sex slave to Carlos, a crime boss, who is by far one of the shittiest characters I've ever read. He has absolutely no respect for human life. He takes Mia in after finding her on the street trying to make money by prostitution. Mia has had a rough life. She was physically and sexually abused by her father, which eventually lead her to run away. She had no one, not even the sexy, blue eyed 18 year old neighbor who she was madly in love with. It was very hard to read how Mia was treated by Carlos and the things he did to her made my stomach turn. There was a part where he even pissed on her face and made her sleep in a dog cage. It was utterly disgusting. Reading Mia's journey from her POV was heartbreaking and beautiful all at the same time. You could feel how absolutely lost she was but yet had this strength about her that just blew your mind. You wanted so badly for her to just get out of that situation but you learn that she has a reason to stay, not because she has nowhere to go but because she's on a mission to save the woman who will soon be sold into the world of himan trafficking.

This is where we meet Tyler Martinez. He's the head of security for this particular shipment and has gotten in good with Carlos. But Tyler is not exactly who he says he is...he's actually an undercover FBI agent and Mia's sexy, blue eyed neighbor she once knew. Tyler instantly recognizes Mia and thus begins his mission to save her from this nightmare of a life.

I'm telling you, this book put me through the ringer. It took me a few days to process what I had read. I was so incredibly disgusted at certain points I wasn't sure I could continue reading. Skye Warren can tell a story that will just grip you by your very bones and wreck your emotions.

Mia is one of those characters that will stick with you long after you've read her story. I understand this book is a work of fiction but with the content it's hard not to get dragged down by it because in reality, these types of situations are happening every day. If you want to take a walk on the dark side then pick this book up. You may end up twisted from the inside out but you won't be disappointed that's for sure.

Love the Way You Lie (Stripped #1) by Skye Warren

 This was the first book I've read by Skye Warren and let me tell you, it won't be the last! I will warn you....the way this author writes is NOT for everyone. This series is considered "dark erotica." It's intense, it's dark and it's not for the faint of heart. I suggest you be at least 18 years old to read this story. You've been warned!

Honor "Honey" Moretti is a stripper who showcases and sells her body for money. She's the daughter of a mob boss and the fiancee to a sadistic man who can't wait to take the reins in the family business. Honor has lived under her fathers will for years and when she can't take being a puppet in their cruel world anymore, Honey escapes taking her 16 year old sister Clare with her.

Honor possess a strength that is truly courageous. She knows what she's up against yet she does what she has to to survive and make sure that her little sister doesn't have to endure the same life she has. Honor's "past life" had me truly sick to my stomach. The office scene that Honor refers back to in a memory left me completely mind f***ed. I had no coherent thoughts.

All that Honor has worked for to hide starts to crumble once she meets Kip. At first you think he's just a paying customer but you learn VERY quickly that he's more than that. Honor has her suspicions and every warning signal is going off that he's a cop and she shouldn't trust him but she's lured to him like a moth to a flame. I wanted to hate Kip, I truly did! I knew he was bad news and he wasn't shy in telling Honor that he was a "bastard." You want so badly to know who he is, why he's sticking around and what the hell does he want with Honor? Things just did not add up with him and he kept you guessing on who he was and what his purpose was for sticking around. I quickly fell in love with Kip and his dirty mouth and alpha ways! He was very intriguing to say the least!

This book will sink it's claws in you and not let up until the end. I wanted so badly to reach through the book and beat the living shit out of Honor's fiance. He was one sick bastard who deserved to be tortured in every way possible. I really loved this book, even with it's dark theme, it was unlike anything I've ever read. It's definitely not for everyone. I cannot wait to read more of Skye Warren's books!

Call Sign Karma by Jamie Rae

Okay so after reading all the great reviews on this book I decided to give it a go. All I can say is *face palm*. I don't even know where to begin *sigh*. I love bad ass female characters but I expected sooooooooooooo much more from Tinklee. I mean she's a flippin' female fighter pilot not a kindergarten teacher! And I won't even go into that name, Tinklee...I mean Really?!?!

Here are some things I just had problems with....

1.The emotional baggage Tinklee carried concerning the death of her brother was just unbelievable. It just didn't make sense to me. I mean the loss of a loved one is definitely hard but it was done so over the top it made it very hard for me to emotionally connect.

2. For a 22 year old who was on her way to being a bad ass fighter pilot in the Air Force, Tinklee sometimes acted like she was an immature 16 year old girl who couldn't handle her emotions. And the way she was always running into things and tripping and falling and bumping her head, it was just so juvenile to me. I honestly couldn't take her seriously.

3. Locke, the leading man and Tinklee's instructor and taboo lover, could have been so awesome! I didn't get "alpha male" from him at all. I liked his character and his admiration for Tinklee but them together was like watching a bad soap opera....in another language! They were lacking major "feels" for me. And Ash's character could have been so much more as well. I mean the guy was in the Special Forces yet acted like an immature high schooler. He was witty, I'll give him that but other than the quick thinking, he just presented himself to be very childish.

I'm sorry I wanted to love this book...I really, really did!! I just could not connect with the characters and the story was all over the place. Some scenes were not in depth enough and others were so rushed that I almost forgot what I was reading about. I get it's a NA book but if you're gonna write about a bad ass female fighter pilot, then make her BAD ASS! And if you want a relationship to be believable, give us a little steam. I don't need full on erotic scenes but give me a little something not just "they kissed and groped and headed for the bedroom and closed the door....next chapter." Ughhh I need to feel a little something, a connection, the emotion. Like I said I don't need full on naughty scenes but there should have been a little more so the characters could draw you in and make you believe their need, want and love for each other.

Oh well....on to the next book in my never ending Kindle library!

Body of Evidence (Evidence #2) by Rachel Grant

Body of Evidence is the second book in the Evidence series and by far the most intense and suspenseful! I mean the first few pages of this book had my heart pumping so fast I was reading like a maniac to see what would happen!! I mean a freakin firing squad in North Korea...yeah like I said INTENSE!

Mara Garrett is an archeologist who retrieves the remains of lost soldiers at war and brings them home to their families. Well with one of her digs she ends up on the wrong side of Korea and becomes a prisoner. She is then sentenced to death by firing squad for being a so called "spy." Within seconds of being shot to death she is saved by the one man that the  Korean President requested to see who could spare her her life, Curt Dominick, a United States District Attorney.

Of course there has to be tension between Mara and Curt and it just so happens that he is prosecuting her uncle, a former Vice President. So yeah, you can say the two aren't going to come off being buddy buddy! This book has so many twists and turns and conspiracy theories it kept me on my feet! Rachel Grant has become one of my new favorite romance/action authors. She definitely knows how to keep you turning the pages!

Concrete Evidence (#1) By Rachel Grant

This is the first book I've read by this author but let me tell you, as soon as I was done with this book...I was on on my Kindle downloading the next two!! It was that good! This book has romance, suspense but also history. I felt like not only was a reading a great story but I was actually learning something too which you don't get in a lot of romance/suspense books.

Our female lead is Erica Kesling, an archeologist, who is trying to gain her reputation back along with clearing her name that her sleezy ex-boyfriend ruined. But of course things don't always go they way you need then to,,,enter Lee Scott. He's a smooth talking, sexy intern that is a pain in Erica's ass. As Erica tries to uncover a scandal of lost antiquities, her sexy intern turns out to be well, not so much an intern!

This story was action packed, sexy in all the right places and a lot of fun to read. If you like books with some action as well as a learning experience, then pick this one up! I promise you won't be disappointed!!
