Review:

Y'all. I have been anxiously awaiting reading this book as soon as I learned about a new book coming in this series. I recently read the first book in this series called The Brit and I was crazy about it. I knew Jodi Ellen Malpas would make this book, The Enigma, exactly on par with the previous one and I WAS RIGHT.

This book has so much darkness, brokenness, deceit, tragedy, murder, questionable acts... but it also has so much love and redemption and a strong pull for the underdog! It's rare I'd call someone like James Kelly an underdog, but the world has made him into the person he is and he's responded in the only way he knows how. The exact same can be said for Beau Hayley. Man, what a crappy set of cards she's been dealt. I can't imagine how I would put one foot forward after a fraction of the things she's gone through, but she does it. She doesn't think she does it well, but the fact that she's still living and breathing and moving and believing... she is inspiring!

This story was so good. There is so much to unpack after the storm I just read through in these characters and this storyline that I am still shaking my head about some things. There are some things in this story that happened that I NEVER would've guessed. There are others I wasn't as surprised by. However, the major surprise in this story didn't go the way I predicted in my head and I love that. 

I feel like this story is left a bit more on a cliffhanger than The Brit was, but not in a terrible way. It wasn't a cliffhanger that leaves you wondering if anyone's alive, will they or won't they, but I am definitely going to be on pins and needles waiting to see how this story ends. 

I cannot wait for The Resurrection. Gimme, Gimme, Gimme!!!!

Review:

I’m ashamed to admit this but this was my first Devney Perry novel. I know! How can that be, right?! But, if you’re in the same position as me… all I can say is- remedy that right now!!

Indigo Ridge was a great read. It was original and enticing. I fell in love with the main characters early on and I was invested with how everything would play out in their lives, both individually and as a potential couple.

Griffin is the rough around the edges, doesn’t express himself a lot, gorgeous hard working cowboy taking care of the family ranch.

Winslow (or Winn, for short) is the strong, fierce, independent female who’s had to rely on herself the last 5 years after experiencing a devastating trauma.

Can Winn let someone in? Can she show vulnerability? Can he? Can the hardworking cowboy who doesn’t have time for anyone other than his horse Jupiter, his family and his farm make a way for anything else? You’ll have to read this story and find out!

Not only is it one of those stories where you’re hoping and praying the couple can work it out, but it’s also a story about family and loss. It’s also a bit of a suspense, with an old fashioned ‘who done it’ kind of mood! This story covers so many bases and the the story overall is so well written. I will definitely be reading more from Ms. Perry and soon, and I especially can’t wait for the next book in this series!! I am hoping for Knox’s story next 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Ahhhh, JB Salsbury did it again! Rebel North is the second book in the North Brothers series. The first book, Wild North, was a 5 star read for me and was/is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time! Rebel North and any other North bros books had big shoes to fill if they were going to live up to my love for Alexander and Jordan, and man did JB deliver!

From the beginning of this book, there’s something I just can’t put my finger on about Kingston. At first I thought, maybe I’m just not connecting as much to this character as I did others in the series… Wrong! There was just so much more to learn about Kingston, so much about him that is just surface level and when you get down to the good stuff… it’s good. His character, gah! Perfectly well written. I love the dichotomy of his character, who he is as a person. I love that people make judgments about him based on appearance and surface level things but if they take the time to really look, he surprises them in the best way. I love his heart. It’s amazing to me the heart he has and the love he has for others after the lack of love he received from his own family. He loves fiercely, passionately, whole heartedly. Multiple times in this book, my heart just broke for him but I also felt this sense of pride for him as things started to change.

Speaking of characters that make your heart go up, down, and all around… enter Gabriella. I love her too. She is compassionate, caring, loyal, willing to go above and beyond to help a friend. She won’t settle. She knows her worth and won’t allow anything less than she deserves. She’s a survivor. And she’s got some sass. I could go on and on about her as well but I’m afraid the more I say about Bee, I could give the story away and that would be such a shame.

This story was a good one. It continues to develop as you read the book. There are little hints, here and there, that make you wonder what’s going to happen? How’s this going to end? Did I miss something? What is happening? But all your questions get answered by the end. And the epilogue? 😍 I loved it. I loved this story. Once again a 5 star read for me and I cannot wait for the next book in this series!

The Brit by Jodi Ellen Malpas Book Review!

Y'all! It has CLEARLY been too long since I've sunk my teeth into a JEM novel. The Brit was so freaking good. I read each page, each sentence, each word, on baited breath waiting to see how it was going to play out. 

From the very beginning of this story, I loved Danny. As a ten year old little boy who desperately needed to be loved, I just wanted to take him home and show him love more than anything else.

Luckily, someone else did that. It may not have been the best upbringing. It may not have been the prettiest, the nicest, the most ethical, but at least he was finally shown a sliver of what love could be. The man he developed into because of his childhood and upbringing... is a man nobody wants to mess with. 

Rose is a tough freaking cookie, too. She has not gone without her share of trauma and torture. She continues to stand tall, and to fight, and to survive. She's an incredibly well written character and I can't imagine the life she's led and how she's able to function as much as she is. 

Seeing Danny and Rose interacting together??

I don't want to give too many details of this story away because it's just epic and you need to read it and experience it yourself. 

What I will say? This book keeps you on pins and needles until the very last page. I don't know if I've ever wanted two people to work out as much as I've wanted this for Danny and Rose. I questioned everyone in this book because I just KNEW something was amiss and it is very hard to figure out who to trust. Especially when you have Danny's Dad's words of wisdom ringing in your ear, "never trust anyone." The Brit is just another excellent example of how easily Jodi Ellen Malpas can create these creative, intricate worlds that you truly feel like you're apart of as you read the story. She has an uncanny ability to make you fall in love with even the most broken of characters and desperately cheer them on. This story is full of love and hate, fire and ice, passion and malice, forgiveness and condemnation. It's dark and gritty and heartbreaking, but so much more. It is so many things it's hard to put into words. I loved every sentence. Cheers to you, Mrs. Malpas. You gave me those Jesse vibes in a whole new way, and that's something I am always going to look forward to reading!!

REVIEW:

I went into Red Sin totally blind, not knowing anything about the storyline but only knowing that I am a huge Aleatha Romig fan. This book did not disappoint!! 

Red Sin continues that charisma and passion that Romig fans are so familiar with! Van and Julia are fatefully pulled together and their attraction is strong. There is a level of mystery and intrigue throughout the entire book. Who is Van, really? What’s his story? As Julia falls for him more and more, she also (as well as me as the reader) has more and more questions! 

While I’m anxious and a little nervous to hear more about Van’s story in the second book in this series, I do love the person Julia has developed into just in the time she’s known and fallen in love with Van! It was an instant, immediate attraction and once she let herself be all in, she grew leaps and bounds in her confidence and understanding her overall self worth. I love a male character that can help a female character develop like that! I’m hoping he doesn’t do something to ruin it in book 2 but we shall see! So far, I really like him in this story. He’s a strong, successful man who’s admitted a lot of his faults to Julia already, but I know he has more he’s going to have to share. Julia wanted a new life and she sure has gotten one!

Going back to speaking of book 2, I’m going to need it to be released…like, tomorrow! I NEED TO KNOW! This book ends with a bit of a cliffhanger and I am waiting with baited breath for the next installment!! I really enjoyed this book- the writing was fantastic, the character develop was great, and I was anxious to keep turning the pages to learn more and more. Can’t wait for Green Envy!

Review:

This book was great! It was such a new and fresh take from Tijan, like nothing I’ve read from her before. I loved her Crew series which has its own bad boy/girl themes in it but nothing like this one.

Raize is the ultimate mafia man. He takes no prisoners, he has no second guessing, he follows through on the mission, with or without help. He is loyal to himself and his one true boss and everyone else has to fall in line or else.

Ash is… a mystery. There’s so much to figure out about her through this story. I love that her character develops the longer you read this book, and you really start to get to know her as the story continues. As chapters go by, you learn more about why she is the way she is.

You learn more about Raize and how appearances can be deceiving. You learn about family and sacrifice and trauma and loyalty and crossing or not crossing lines. You learn about friendship and trust and bad decisions and consequences to actions.

There’s a lot to this book. Tijan has mentioned this has been her most violent book to date. That’s true, there is violence throughout this book. If you’ve never read a mafia related book before, it may be surprising for you. It serves these characters well, though. It gives you a crystal clear picture of this life Tijan has created for them. The world building of Canary was incredible for me. I was able to visualize so much of this story as it continued to develop. Overall, I really enjoyed this story. The characters are hard core. Their backgrounds are heartbreaking. Their grit and determination are evident. This is a story that’ll sit in the back of my mind for a while!
