The Unperfects by Rachel Van Dyken Review & Release Blitz!

Title: The Unperfects
Series: The Perfects: a series of standalone novels
Author: Rachel Van Dyken

New Adult Romance, Angsty, Dramedy, College, Twins, Insta-Love

From the moment he landed in her lap, he knew they were meant to be. That is, until he started to see double, and doubt everything that happened. Find out if it was truly insta-love or just insta-lust in #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken's steamy new adult romance, The Unperfects.

I saw her. Liked her instantly. May have slept with her twice only to… well, never mind. It gets confusing after that point.
You see, there are two of them. Identical twins.

All I wanted was a vacation from the bullshit but what I got was evil twin number one and innocent twin number two.
They say things come in threes, so help me God, if there’s another.

I’m healing from past trauma but may have created more for my future.
Anyone got any sage?
A candle?
At this point, I’d take Barney.

Send help.

Love, Quinn

Review:

I enjoyed the story in The Unperfects. It was a pretty light, easy read with characters I really liked. I’d been hoping to get more of Quinn’s story after being introduced to him in a previous book and I’m so glad we got to know him a little more in this one! Quinn seems like the type of guy you’d always want to have in your corner- he’ll make you laugh, hold you when you cry, always a good friend and is fiercely loyal. He’s everything Chloe has always wanted and the two hit it off immediately. Chloe is endearing and hard not to love I think, even if she can’t see that in herself. I’m not the biggest fan of the insta-love type stories, but this one intrigued me because of how well the characters are written. RVD makes it believable that two characters like this could have such a funny, perfect meet cute and as they say, the rest be history. I’m curious to know how some parts of this story will play out. I wonder if we’ll get character cameos of these characters in future books or another book about any of these characters. I would definitely read it if so. Speaking of character cameos, this book was full of Easter eggs with previous RVD characters I’ve known and loved so that was a really fun part of this story. Overall, I enjoyed this read and can’t wait to read whatever RVD puts out next! Thank you for giving me the chance to read and review this book!

THE UNPERFECTS

I will always be second to him in her eyes, and the real shit part is that I can’t even be pissed about it because at the end of the day I love them both too much to say anything and way too much to make it weird. I mean, long story short, it already got weird that one time we all kissed and had a near threesome. I’d like to say, oh yeah, we were wasted.

Totally sober.

And now I’m on another “ledge” inevitably waiting to jump off bungee style, not how I thought my gap year was going to start, or you know, like, possibly end by way of death. “Okay, I’m going.”

"That’s what she said.” Ambrose jokes.

"How old are you, boomer?” I call back. “Genuinely curious because if you still say that, it means you’re at least looking at renewing the lease on your car and might buy a new dishwasher if things pan out.”

He bursts out laughing. “Why a dishwasher?”

“It’s what old people do!” Everything is double in my vision, the trees, I mean, it is a forest so that could have been a me problem, but the point is, everything looked entirely too far down.

I look back at Diego, the dude that strapped me into the contraption, and force a smile. “Nobody’s died, right?”

The way the color left his face will be forever imprinted on my soul. “Nah, man, totally, safe.”

“Second time I've heard that.” I did another double take. “Cool shirt.”

It literally says: That’s the way things go.

Toward death? Downward.

I take another deep breath, then look back at Diego again. “How old are you again?”

His full white-toothed smile does not give me any sort of comfort, he is too good-looking to know how to put on a harness let alone shove an eighteen-year-old off a ledge. You can never truly trust the pretty ones. Not to mention his shirt, his ripped jeans as if Abercrombie made a comeback, or the fact that I know his shoes are entirely too expensive for this job, which also means that he was doing it for fun.

Not safety. Or actual monetary need.

I stare him down one last time; I stare down every perfect Clark Kent curl on his blond head. “Trust fund?”

He shrugs. “One day.”

I look around him to Ambrose. “For the record, if I die, burn the box under my bed.” I point at Diego. “No!” Okay so I shouted. “You don’t get to laugh or ask!”

He holds up his hands.

“Okay, so for the millionth time I can just… go.”

"Someone should,” Diego mumbles under his breath.

“Diego, I swear I will shove you over this ledge so hard and fast you’ll get pregnant!”

Ambrose bursts out laughing and wraps his arm around her.

What was once, possibly, potentially, mine. “Never seen him so freaked out that he’d threaten children on the first dude he saw, but hey, they’d be cute.”

“They’d be fucking gorgeous, and you know it, Ambrose!” I yell back while Diego grabs the rope and harness one last time.

“Remember…” Diego tightens my balls so hard.

Maybe that’s a no on the pregnancy?

"Focus.” He orders. “Just fall, all you have to do is fall, if you’re freaked, you can cross your arms, but honestly, I would just let that shit fly.”

"No shit shall be flying this day, good sir. No shit, damn it!” I turn. “Okay, I’m finally ready.”

Diego mutters something under his breath.

I'm sure it isn’t wholesome.

“One!” Ambrose yells. “Two!”

Diego grins at me. “Three.”

So I fall, or it is more of a trip in an attempt to step backward, but I’m sure I look like a mother fucking eagle soaring through the sky.

I don’t scream; the air is completely taken from my lungs by the eight-hundred-foot death drop.

I wasn’t expecting so much bouncing.

The first one is the largest, probably saw Heaven, but I am too traumatized to even do anything except gasp for air and try to look cool in front of everyone. The second time isn’t as bad, and I was having some fun, not really freaking out.

But the third?

The third is when I bounce dangerously close to a canoe.

It’s also when my rope snaps, and I land right with my face between someone's thighs with several new bodily injuries and delirious as everyone screams above me.

The best part?

She just stares down at me and smiles. “Hey, you’re alive!”

When I finally get past the absolute panic of near death, I look up. And I’ll never forget the way she smiles down at me, with her reddish-brown hair, blue eyes, wearing nothing but the smallest black triangle bikini top ever, and a small tattoo on her wrist that looks like a whale. “You sure?”

She laughs harder. “Yeah, scared stranger, I’m sure, by the time you hit the third bounce, you were only a few feet above my canoe, kind of saved your life from the alligators.”

"I KNEW IT!” I shout, then move my face. “Uh sorry about you know, trying to have an early lunch.”

She leans down. “Interesting, it kind of felt like a simple appetizer.”

"Are we in love now?” I ask.

She helps me to my feet and sits me down, bracing me with her hands. “I mean if you want to be, I have time on my schedule, was gonna check out a matinee later, heard Jason Statham made a comeback, then again here you are so, if you’re trying to give him a run for his money I’m down.”

Even injured, I lean forward out of adrenaline and cup her chin with my shaky hands. “I think I was the one that was down.”

Her cheeks flush. “I’m Chloe.”

“I’m Quinn.”

The Love Plot by Samantha Young Review and Release Blitz!

The Love Plot by Samantha Young is now live!

There’s a magnetic attraction when a happy-go-lucky gig worker agrees to a fake relationship with a rich, uptight New Yorker in this steamy romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Samantha Young.

Star Shine Meadows is all about freedom, thanks to the hippie parents who raised her. Juggling her jobs as a professional costume character actor and a line sitter, she believes in no expectations, no stressful ambitions, and no-strings-attached relationships. So when she meets a birthday girl’s grumpy uncle while working a princess party, she can’t help but needle him. She’ll never see him again, and honestly, he's pretty hot.

Rafe Whitman may be a veterinarian with a great bedside manner, but that doesn’t mean his patience extends to anyone with opposable thumbs. His family will not stop nagging him about finding “the one,” so when he runs into obnoxiously cheery Star again, he makes her an offer: He’ll pay her more than she would make doing her odd jobs if she’ll pretend to be his girlfriend at family gatherings. She can stop sitting in line waiting for someone else’s new phone, and he’ll get his family off his back.

When the tension between them heats to a breaking point, Star’s desire for "no strings" is tested against Rafe’s staunch stability. They say opposites attract, after all....

Review:

I love that feeling when you finish a book smiling and can recall multiple moments throughout said book where you had that same smile on your face. Samantha Young has an incredible talent in the way she’s able to write a story and create characters that can leave the reader feeling like they’ve truly connected with these fictional characters and are rooting them on. There were 3 or 4 conversations specifically I can remember between our main characters, Star and Rafe, that just made me smile, made me feel good about love and life and the world, and that is a testament to the writer of this book. It’s also not something that frequently occurs for me after completing a book, so I know this one will likely be staying with me for a while.

I have to admit, it took me a little while at the beginning to connect with Star’s character, probably more similar to Rafe’s initial reaction than I care to admit. Her positive, always look for the good attitude is infectious though and when you get over the initial disbelief that someone can’t truly be that positive all the time, it makes you see how endearing of a character she really is. I became a huge fan of hers like so many others in the story did too. It also challenged my own attitude as a reader in how I see myself and the world as I watched her character develop.

I also loved watching Rafe’s character transform, though I think he was probably the same loving, loyal, kind guy throughout the book- just with an initial grumpy exterior! I love a good grumpy/sunshine story and this book is definitely representative of that. I’ve already discussed Star’s aforementioned sunny disposition, but Rafe can be standoffish to the world and appears as though he has no interest in anything but his work. You come to learn more about him as a reader though and find out how much and how well he can love others and what a gift that is to behold.

He and Star have incredible chemistry. They might’ve signed up to be in a fake relationship but as their fake relationship progresses, they begin treating each other in a way those in real relationships hope to experience. They treat each other with respect, they hold each other accountable, they admit and apologize to each other when they’re wrong, and they listen to one another. I love the two of these perfectly imperfect characters and I know that any reader who takes the chance on reading this book will fall in love with them too! Oh, and the end- I LOVED the end! Go read it!!

Glimmers of You by Catherine Cowles Review & Release Blitz!

💙GLIMMERS OF YOU IS LIVE💙

Fall for Grae and Caden in their fake dating, brother’s best friend, small town romance from USA Today Bestselling Author, Catherine Cowles!

He hadn’t always just been my brother’s best friend. There was a time when he was mine, too. Until he disappeared from our small town when I needed him the most.

Now, Caden’s back. With his cocky smirk and infuriating nicknames. And I’m struggling to ignore his presence.

When my ex refuses to leave me alone, Caden steps in, suggesting that it will get my ex and Caden’s calculating father off both our backs if we just pretend to be madly in love.

There’s just one problem… Nothing I feel for Caden Shaw is fake—even when I thought I hated him. And there’s no denying how the touch of his lips sparks a flame I’ll never be able to extinguish.

As those pretend moments start to turn oh so real, someone’s watching. They’re not happy about Caden’s new role in my life. And they’ll do anything to rip me away from him—even burn us all to the ground…

Review:

What another great installment to what is easily becoming one of my favorite book series!! Catherine Cowles brings us another incredible story with Glimmers of You focusing on Grae and Caden! Grae is the little sister to a bunch of rowdy but loveable brothers in the Hartley family. Earlier in the series, you get to know Holt and Nash (2 of her 4 brothers) so well that you can’t help but love them. Truly, you’ll fall in love with the whole Hartley crew and like me, desperately want to read the story of each of the siblings. I’ve looked forward to Grae’s story, to getting her perspective of life as a Hartley in a small town and I often wondered what her love story would end up being. Enter, Caden- one of her brother’s best friends and the boy who once was everything to her! Their chemistry has been evident through each chapter, each page of this book. It’s easy to see and feel the feelings these characters have developed for each other. I love how they challenge each other but also support each other. Throughout the book, I wondered if Caden would be able to get out of his own way and really allow himself to be happy. I wondered if Grae would put herself out there again on the chance that she could be hurt. I love the development we get with both of these characters both individually and together. I love that we see so many glimpses of characters we’ve already fallen in love with earlier in the series and I LOVE that we’re building up to the next brother, Roan’s, story as his may end up being my favorite of them all. Overall, I just really enjoyed this story. Catherine Cowles’ ability to tell a story and develop great characters is incredible. The flow of the book and the speed of which things develop are all great. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and had me wondering what was going to be the next thing all throughout the story. Thank you for another incredible story Catherine and for the ability to read and review your books. I am a huge fan and will shout it from the rooftops that everyone needs to dive in to Glimmers of You and the whole Lost & Found series!!

Glimmers of You by Catherine Cowles Sneak Peek!

 ðŸ’™Glimmers of You Sneak Peek💙

USA Today bestseller, Catherine Cowles, has a sneak peek of her upcoming fake dating, brother’s best friend, small town romance, Glimmers of You, coming August 1st!

“Why are your lips touching my sister?” Holt growled as he pushed to his feet.

Lawson strode out from the kitchen. “This is a joke, right?”

But Roan stayed sitting. He simply stared, a thoughtful expression on his face.

Caden didn’t seem especially worried and showed no signs of releasing me as three pissed-off guys charged toward him. I, on the other hand, immediately started sweating.

“Explain,” Nash growled.

Caden rubbed a hand up and down my arm. “Gigi and I are dating.”

Lawson’s jaw dropped open, then closed, then opened again. “You two hate each other.”

Caden shrugged. “I think that was really just flirting.”

Holt’s gaze narrowed on him. “Grae said she was going to murder you. Repeatedly.”

My fingers twisted in Caden’s shirt as the panic set in.

“Murder is apparently Gigi’s love language,” Caden explained.

We were so screwed.
